DOVER (October 31, 2008) ? Delaware State recorded a season-high 63 kills and 50 assists in a back and forth five-set battle over Morgan State (3-23, 2-7 MEAC) 3-2 (30-28, 23-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-11). With the victory the Hornets improve their MEAC record to 6-3 (12-10 overall)
DSU had a tough time getting into a rhythm offensively in the first set, but would bounce back as they tallied 19 kills to take the early 1-0 lead.
In the second set, errors proved costly to the Hornets as MSU would register a .324 attack percentage to tie the match at 1-1.
DSU would control the third set racking up an impressive .407 attack percentage while forcing MSU to hit .120.
The Bears would fight back in the fourth set as they tallied 13 kills while putting the pressure on DSU, forcing them to commit nine costly errors.
In the fifth set, both teams would battle, but it came down to errors. MSU recorded five of them while Delaware State only tallied one to take the set and the match.
Both teams lit up the score sheet. For the Hornets, junior Cassandra Joyner led the way with 17 kills and a season-high 19 digs for her second double-double of the season. Both Erica Tajchman (16 kills and 13 digs) and Elisa Hermann (12 kills and 17 digs) recorded double-doubles of their own. Sarah Wheatcroft led DSU in passing with a season-high 46 assists.
For MSU, setter Christa Rogers led the way with 42 assists and 11 digs.
The Hornets will host Quinnipiac in a non-conference showdown, tomorrow, November 1. Game time is slated for 9 a.m.
