DOVER (October 24, 2008) ? MEAC assists leader and UMES setter Christina Estabane led the way with 40 assists in route to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) victory over Delaware State. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 4-3 in MEAC play (10-10 overall).
In the first set, UMES put the pressure on DSU offensively tallying 15 kills and a .216 attack percentage. DSU only recorded seven kills and five errors for a .091 attack percentage.
Offense wouldn't be a problem for the Hornets in the second set as they stormed back to register 12 kills and only two errors (.385 attack percentage), but UMES was simply better tallying 18 kills and only two assists for a staggering .516 attack percentage.
The third set would go back and forth until Hawks' middle blocker Thonya Joseph tallied a kill late to put Maryland Eastern Shore ahead for good.
DSU sophomore Erica Tajchman led the way for the Hornets nearly recording her fourth double-double of the season with nine kills and 11 digs. Freshman setter Martina Ferrari tallied 27 assists to give her at least 25 in two of the last three matches.Â
Junior Cassandra Joyner chipped in with six kills and seven digs.Â
The Hornets will travel to Howard, this Sunday, October 26. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
