Dover, DE --- Delaware State set a team scoring record in an 8-1 victory over Concordia (NY) in women's soccer at Alumni Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Hornets have won two of their last three to improve to 2-4 on the season, while the Clippers fell to 0-4. Delaware State's previous record for goals in a game was six, on three occasions. The Hornets most recently scored six times in a victory over Molloy (6-0) last Tuesday. In Sunday's contest, Britanee Gourdine had two goals and an assist, while Ashlee Gourdine and Danielle Miller (left) tallied two goals each to lead the Hornets. Britanee Gourdine started the scoring with an unassisted goal from 20 yards out in the fifth minute. It was her third goal of the season. The Hornets opened up a 2-0 lead when Ashlee Gourdine, Britanee's younger sister, fired a shot past Concordia goal keeper Nathifa Newby from eight yards out in the 19th minute. Neither team could score the rest of the half. Ashlee Gourdine scored on a header off a feed from Leah Hontz early in the second period (46:12) to give DSU a 3-0 lead. Moments later, Kelly Cheng scored her second goal of the season off a pass from Britanee Gourdine to put the Hornets ahead 4-0. Britanee Gourdine tallied her second goal of the game, and fourth of the season, to stretch DSU's lead to 5-0 in the 50th minute. Miller had two goals and Brittany Griffin added a score later in the second period to round out the scoring for the Hornets. Delaware State returns to action on Wednesday (Sep. 19) at home against VMI. The match starts at 5:00 p.m.
