LADY HORNETS NO MATCH FOR OLD DOMINION

Old Dominion proved worthy of its national ranking after a convincing 70-28 win over Delaware State at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, VA on Thursday. The 25th ranked Monarchs (Associated Press) won for the fourth time in five games to improve to 7-3 on the season. The Lady Hornets dropped their fourth straight to fall to 3-7. Delaware State's point total was its lowest since a 71-27 loss to Southern Utah in 2000. The 42-point loss was DSU's worst since a 47-point setback to #2 North Carolina last season. Old Dominion led from start to finish. The Monarchs scored the first 10 points of the game, and opened up a 20-6 lead on a lay up by Tiffany Green with 7:52 left in the first half. ODU led 30-12 at the half. The Monarchs poured it on in the second half, outscoring the Lady Hornets 40-16 in the final 20 minutes. Delaware State continued to struggle with its shooting, hitting just 12 of 61 shots from the field (19.7%). Freshman Brittany Washington came of the bench to lead the Lady Hornets with a career-high seven points. Keyhana Wakefield added six points, while Thea Littlepage led the team with nine rebounds. Littlepage has 11 blocks in the last five games. Old Dominion's Jessica Canady tied with teammate Megan Pym for game high scoring honors with 12 points. Canady also added 13 rebounds and four blocks. Delaware State was outrebounded 62-38.  The Lady Hornets return to action on Dec. 28 against Virginia in the Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, VA.
