Dover, DE --- The 2007 Delaware State soccer season has ended in the quarterfinals of the United Soccer Conference Tournament in Orem, UT. The fifth seeded Hornets were eliminated from the tournament after falling to number four Howard 3-0. Delaware State's season ends with an overall record of 3-12-2, while the Bison advance to play number one Longwood in the semifinals on Friday. The match was scoreless for the first 37 minutes. Howard broke the ice when DeLaine Anderson and Natalie Williston assisted on a goal by Rachel Lee at 37:48. A key play in the contest occurred shortly after admission (49:21) when Howard took a 2-0 lead on an “own goal” against the Hornets. The Bison closed out the scoring when Meghan Nick found the net off a pass from Briana Gamble in the 78th minute. Howard was credited with 15 shots, including seven on goal. Delaware State fired off 16 shots, but only five on goal. Stephanie Ridener and Danielle Miller had two shots on goal each for the Hornets. Howard goalie Jessamyn Perkins recorded five saves to earn the win. Delaware State goalie Courtney Haas was credited with four saves.
