HORNETS FALL IN OVERTIME

Dover, DE --- Lauren Mahar scored on a free kick just 25 seconds into overtime to give Rider a 2-1 win over Delaware State in women's college soccer at Alumni Stadium Tuesday. The Hornets forced the extra frame on a goal with about five minutes left in regulation. Mahar's game-winning goal from 40 yards out sailed over the outstretched arms of Delaware State goal keeper Courtney Haas.  Rider scored first Kayla Devlin found the net from 25 yards out off a feed from Lauren Musumeci in the 10th minute. The goal held up until Delaware State's Ashlee Gourdine scored off a rebound in front of the net in the 85th minute. Gourdine is now tied for the team lead with four goals. The Hornets had a scoring chance in the final seconds of regulation, but an open shot by Brittanee Gourdine from 20 yards out sailed just over the net. Rider goal keeper Alex Post recorded four saves to earn the win, while Haas had six saves for Delaware State. The Hornets return to action on Friday (Oct. 12) for a United Soccer Conference contest at Howard.
