Ryan
Sley joined the Delaware State University Athletics Department in August 2011
as an Associate Athletic Trainer. He
serves as the primary athletic trainer for the women's basketball and outdoor
track and field teams. Additionally, he
is the secondary athletic trainer for the football team.
Sley
joins the Hornets from McDaniel College, where he earned his Master of Science
in Exercise Science and Physical Education in May 2011. During his time at McDaniel, he worked two
seasons as a Graduate Assistant in their sports medicine department.
Prior
to his time at McDaniel, Sley worked as an intern with the United States Naval
Academy, where he worked with the football and ice hockey teams. During this time, he was named the Assistant
Medical Director for the 2008 NCAA Frozen Four, held in Washington, D.C.
During
his last semester of undergraduate work, Sley was a student intern with
Georgetown University. He provided daily
coverage of practices, games and rehabilitation for the men's lacrosse team in
addition to helping with the 2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, also held
in Washington, D.C.
Sley
graduated from Salisbury University in May 2008 with a bachelor's degree in
Athletic Training. As a student, he worked
with the SU sports medicine department and aided with NCAA events, drug testing
and sport coverage as well as supporting medical staff with local events such
as the Seagull Century, National Junior Wrestling Tournament, St. Joseph House
Food Drive and MS 150 Bike Race.
Sley
is a member of numerous professional organizations including the National
Athletic Trainers Association, Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association,
Maryland Athletic Trainers Association and MATA Young Professional's
Committee. He is accredited by the
National Athletic Trainers Association and holds a Pennsylvania Medical Board
License.
Ryan
and his wife, Amy, live in North East, Md. with their dog, Phoebe, and turtle,
Bubba. In his free time he enjoys
sports, outdoor activities and traveling.
