Kaliya Garcia enters her first year under Head Coach Khadijah Rushdan and fifth with the program. Coach Rushdan has elevated Kaliya to Executive Assistant.
Kaliya has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership, service, and professional growth throughout her time at Delaware State University. Her journey within DSU Athletics has been defined by a passion for supporting student-athletes and enhancing the collegiate athletic experience both on and off the court.
Garcia began her career with the Women's Basketball program as Head Manager from 2021–2022, where she played an integral role in the team's daily operations, travel logistics, and practice preparation. She then served as Assistant to the Head Coach from 2022–2026, providing operational support while gaining valuable experience in program management, leadership, and collegiate athletics.
Beyond her work with Women's Basketball, Garcia has distinguished herself as a campus leader. She served as a two-term President of the Sports Management Organization, collaborating with nine athletic programs to oversee game-day operations and coordinate student worker responsibilities. She is also a founding member of DSU's Women in Sports Organization, helping create opportunities for women pursuing careers in the sports industry.
In 2026, Garcia served as the primary point of contact and coordinator for Delaware State University's gameday student workers during the MEAC Basketball Tournament. In this role, she managed communication, staffing, and event operations, helping ensure a successful championship experience for participating teams, staff, and fans.
Throughout her collegiate career, Garcia has developed a reputation for professionalism, organization, and dedication to excellence. Through community engagement, leadership initiatives, and hands on experience across multiple areas of athletics administration, she has consistently represented Delaware State University with pride and integrity. As she continues her professional journey as a Graduate Assistant for the Sport Management Department and Executive Assistant for the Women's Basketball Program, Garcia remains committed to inspiring others, creating meaningful opportunities for student athletes, and making a lasting impact within collegiate athletics.
