Joseph Hodge

Joe Hodge is in his first full season as the head women's tennis coach at Delaware State University in 2024-25. He joined the Hornets on Jan. 29, 2024.

Hodge immediately made an impact upon his arrival in spring 2024, as the Hornets were the runner-ups to South Carolina State in the MEAC Championship.

Hodge comes to DSU after serving as the assistant coach at Wilmington University since Aug. 2022. While at Wilmington University, he helped the team win two back-to-back CACC Championships and one NCAA Division II East Region Championship, advancing them to the NCAA Division II National Round of 16 in Florida.

Hodge also has local Delaware experience as a tennis professional at Greenville Country Club and as the former boy's head tennis coach at Wilmington Friends. In his first season at the helm of Wilmington Friends, he brought the team to finish fifth in the state of Delaware, recording the school's best record in the past 12 years. While at Greenville Country Club, he has coached both juniors and adults, taught lessons, run groups and clinics, and coached the women's cup teams.

Additionally, Hodge has served the community through his work at RodneyStreet and Tennis Rocks. RodneyStreet is an inclusive, non-profit organization that provides high-quality tennis and supportive academic resources to young people in and around Wilmington. Tennis Rocks is an after-school and summer grassroots tennis program that helps bring music and tennis to Wilmington youth.

Hodge graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Music in 2009, earned his Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Hartford's Hartt School of Music in 2012, and completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Orchestral Conducting from Michigan State University in 2021 (ABD).

Hodge is USPTA Level 1 certified.
