Rick McCall Jr. enters his fifth season at the helm of the Delaware State Women’s Golf Team. He was appointed as head coach of the Delaware State University women’s golf team in Jan. 2019.
In 2021-2022 his 4th season at DSU, McCall led the team to 5 top 5 finishes including a 3rd place finish at the Southland Conference Championship a second-place finishes at the Women in Golf and the PGA Works Minority Championship.
The Hornets broke a few records in McCall’s fourth season. DSU broke the individual 36 scoring record of 138 by Nattavadee Khunsri at the Navy Invitational. Nattavadee also shot the lowest 18-hole score in team history with a 67 at Navy. They also broke the 18-hole team record by shooting 294 at the William & Mary Invitational. Besting the old record set a year earlier by 10 shots. In that same tournament the Hornet women broke the 36-hole and 54-hole team records with totals of 601 and 906.
McCall had two All Conference selections in the Southland Conference in 2022, Nattavadee Khunsri and Ana Ferreyra-Heit. The team excelled in the classroom as well achieving two scholar All-Americans in Ana Ferreyra-Heit and Estelle Verny. The team finished with a 3.66 team grade point average.
In his 3rd season as head coach the 2020/2021 season was shortened due to COVID. The team won the Navy Invitational and Amber Pennington finished in 2nd place as individual paced by a second round 72. The team finished 3rd place at the Women in Golf and 2nd place at the PGA Works Minority Championship. Nattavadee Khunsri made history by winning the 2021 PGA Works Minority Championship with a 3-day total of 221 and Nattavadee also came in T1st at the Women in Golf Championship.
The Hornets excelled in the classroom in the 2020/2021 season with a cumulative GPA of 3.55!
In his 2nd season at the helm the Hornets in 2019/2020 saw their Spring season cancelled due to COVID. In the Fall Nattavadee had a 4th place finish at William & Mary and also won the UMES Invitational with 2 round total of 76-72 winning by 16 shots!
In his 1st season McCall guided the team to a victory at the HBCU Match Play Championship in February of 2019.
McCall served as Head Professional and Junior Program Coordinator at Wild Quail Golf and Country Club in Wyoming, Delaware from 2003 until 2019.
McCall’s collegiate coaching experience includes a 16-year tenure (2001-2017) as Assistant Men’s Golf Coach at Wesley College in Dover, Del. He also served as head coach of the program from June 2017 to June 2018.
From March 2001 to January 2003, McCall was Director of Instruction / Part Owner of the McCall and Cecchett Golf Academy in Dover, and was Jim McLean’s Personal Assistant at the Jim McLean Golf School from April 2000 to March 2001. McCall has instructed / caddied for such notable golfers as LPGA Tour Champion Cristie Kerr, PGA Tour champion Len Mattiace and Drive Chip & Putt Champion Sawyer Brockstedt.
A 1995 graduate of The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (B.S. in Marketing), McCall was a scholarship golfer for the Mocs. He was also a State of Delaware high school golf champion in 1998.
