Hornets Rally to Secure 4-2 Win Over IU Indy

RICHMOND, KY --The Delaware State Hornets broke through after a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning to defeat the IU Indianapolis Jaguars 4-2 Saturday.

Kaylanie Rodriguez (2-2) got the win for Delaware State (4-8). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on seven hits, allowing three walks and striking out four.

In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by Chandler Martin, who went 2-for-3 on the day with two RBIs. Zaelyn Harding put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-4. Mianna Lopez De Haro also chipped in for Delaware State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double and a walk.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. Delaware State picked up a pair of runs in the frame.

After the Jaguars rallied to tie the ballgame at two, the Hornets came back to retake the lead in the sixth inning. Nevaeh Terrell came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Hornets.

Delaware State kept IU Indianapolis scoreless before expanding their lead to 4-2 the following inning. The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as Delaware State held on for the win.

 

GAME NOTES

» Harding compiled three base knocks in the game for Delaware State.
» Delaware State's highest scoring inning was the first, when it pushed two runs across.
» Delaware State grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
» Delaware State pitchers limited IU Indianapolis to just 1-for-9 (.111) with runners in scoring position.
» Delaware State pitchers faced 32 IU Indianapolis hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and 11 fly balls while striking out four.
» Martin led the Hornets at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
