Dover, Del. --- Eight celebrated student-athletes and a standout coach will be honored during Delaware State University's 2025 Athletics Hall-of-Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony on Sep. 12 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center on the DSU campus.
The Hornets' 2025 hall-of-fame class includes former Mid-Eastern Athletics Conference (MEAC) football Offensive Player-of-the-Year Nick Elko, who earned the award after leading the league with a team-record 2,828 passing yards in 2012. Elko is also number two in DSU history with 5,758 passing yards, trailing only Hornet hall-of-famer Rahsaan Matthews (6,073) on the list. Nick also holds the numbers one-and-two spots for single- season pass completions with the Hornets, setting the record with 259 in 2012 and posting the number two mark with 207 in 2011. He has recorded seven of Delaware State's top 10 highs for single-game pass completions and holds five of the top 10 marks for passing yards in a game.
Bowling great Adriana Jaime Mayzck has also been selected for hall-of-fame induction. Mayzck was a National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-America, MEAC Rookie-of-the-Year and All-MEAC First Team selection as a freshman during the 2008-09 season. She helped lead the Hornets to back-to-back MEAC Bowling championships and NCAA Tournament appearances (2008-10), including a Final Four finish in the 2009 nationals. Mazyck will be the fourth member of those championship teams in the DSU Hall-of-Fame, joining Angela Reynolds, Kalyn Washburn and Jazmyne Hefflefinger.
Leroy Thompson, one of the most dominant defensive players in team history, will also enter the Hornet Hall-of-Fame this year. Thompson, a 1992 Kodak Division I-AA All-America and All-MEAC First Team selection, set the school record with 16 sacks during the Hornets' 1991 MEAC championship campaign. He ranks third all-time at DSU with 30 sacks, trailing only Hornet Hall of Famers Robert Presbury (31) and the late Malcolm Showell (30.5). Thompson also holds the Delaware State record with five sacks in game (twice).
Another member of Delaware State's lone MEAC championship baseball team also joins the hall-of-fame this year. Shortstop Donald Probst was named to the All-MEAC First Team after batting .388 and ranking third among all NCAA Div. 1 players in runs scored per game during the Hornets' 1989 MEAC championship season. He was also named to the all-tournament team for this play during the Hornets' title run. His twin brother Ronald Probst was a member of the Hornets' 2021 Hall-of-Fame class.
Women's basketball standout Kimberly Taylor Lee is also selected for hall-of-fame induction this year. Lee is one of a handful of players to reach 1000 points, 200 assists and 200 steals with the Lady Hornets. She ranks in the top 20 on the team's all-time scoring list with 1,137 points, eighth in career steals (221) and 12th in
assists (216). She helped lead Delaware State to MEAC Tournament championship game appearances in 1989 and 1990. A 1987-88 MEAC All-Rookie selection, she also earned MEAC All-Tournament honors in 1990.
Another Hornet football defensive stalwart, Dr. Marvin Bright, will be enshrined in the hall-of-fame this year. A mainstay of the defensive unit that helped lead Delaware State to MEAC championships in 1987 & '88, Bright was named to the All-MEAC First Team as a linebacker in 1987 and '88, in addition to earning HBCU All-America honors during the '88 season. Bright was tied for second on the Hornets and top five in the MEAC with 89 total tackles in 1988.
The 2025 Delaware State Hall-of-Fame class also includes former football greats Ray Bias Sr. and the late John Chisom. Bias, a four-year starting quarterback for the Hornets, earned All-MEAC honors in 1972 and '74. Chisom, a standout receiver, set a school-record with 433 receiving yards, to go along with four touchdown catches in 1972. He signed to compete with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons following his Delaware State playing days.
Rounding out this year's hall-of-fame honorees is Wayne Newsome, a former member of the Hornet wrestling team and long-time head coach of the program. Newsome coached three Hornets who were selected among the Top 50 in the history of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (Scott Fleming - MEAC & NCAA East Regional champion; Francky Francois - two-time NCAA championship qualifier, NCAA East Regional champ and East Regional runner-up; and the late Marvin Hicks – three-time MEAC Champion and NCAA championship qualifier). He coached more than 40 MEAC place winners, 15 MEAC champions, 29 NCAA East Regional place winners, five East Region champions and six NCAA Division I qualifiers.    Â
The 2025 Delaware State Hall-of-Fame honorees will also be recognized during halftime of the Hornets' football contest against Bowie State (Md.) on Sep. 13 at Alumni Stadium.
