MARTIN, Tenn. - Delaware State equestrian could not overcome the Southern Methodist University Mustangs on Saturday, falling 12-3.
Despite a tough outing in Jumping Seat, the Hornets had a few highlights. In Fences, Olivia Brown tied with the Mustangs' Augusta Iwasaki at 80 while riding "Pearl." In Flat, Delaware State's lone point came from Chloey Prichard aboard "Doug." It was a 6-1 victory for Southern Methodist in Jumping Seat.
Over in the Western rides, the Hornets put up a strong fight in Horsemanship. Even though they did not earn any team points, three of the four Hornets riders fell by three points or less to their opponents. For Reining, Delaware State saw two points: one from Claire Andrews, and one from Estella Estus. Andrews snagged her victory by 0.5 points aboard "Yeti." Estus won by the same margin while riding "Duke." She also earned MOP. The Mustangs won 6-2 in Western.
Overall, the final score was 12-3 in favor of Southern Methodist. For points, the tally was 1246.5 to 1189.5.
UP NEXT
The Hornets will return to Martin, Tenn. next month for the ECAC Championship. The meet will be from Thursday, March 27 - Saturday, March 29. Times have yet to be determined.
