DALLAS, Texas – Delaware State University equestrian team ended their Texas stint with a victory over South Dakota State University, 8-7, Saturday morning.
The Hornets (5-2, 5-2 NCEA) picked up four Most Outstanding Performer honors on the day. Junior Olivia Brown was honored in Fences with an 83-82 victory over Julia Werkhoven.
Victoria Croston picked up an 81-77 win over Hannah Steele to receive MOP in Flat.
Ashely Grasso earned the Horsemanship MOP.
Delaware State opened the meet with a 5-3 lead after Fences and Horsemanship.
The Fences corps went 2-2 and was led by Junior Olivia Brown, who put together an 83-82 victory. Maranda McCarthy capped the scoring for the Hornets with an 81-68 win.
Horsemanship won the day with a 3-1 score, starting with Grasso's 75-73.5 MOP victory. Sophomore Claire Andrews 72.5 topped her opponent, and Kresten Zehner defeated Zuerker Merrit 67-64.5.
Following the break, Flat tied 4-4 vs. SDSU in Jumping Seat action.
Reining capped the afternoon with another 4-3 victory over the Jackrabbit. Anna Payne topped her opponent 70.5-69. Claire Andrews wrapped up the competition with a tied score of 73.
The Hornets continue their season on Feb. 9 at UT Martin.
