DOVER – Delaware State University equestrian team started off the season with a big win at home, topping the University of Crookston at the Dovington Trainig Center, 15-1, Friday morning.
The Hornets (1-0, 1-0 NCEA) picked up four Most Outstanding Performer honors on the day. Sophomore Megan Pratt tallied career high score of 84, winning MOP in Fences. Junior Olivia Brown was also honored in Flat.
Aniela Cortina earned the Horsemanship MOP.
Anastaastia Brugger won MOP in Reining.
Delaware State opened the meet with 7-1 lead after Fences and Horsemanship.
The Fences corps went 3-1 and was led by Junior Olivia Brown, who put together an 86-82 victory over Juliana Gullo and second year Megan Pratt downed Belle Syrett, 84-75. Maranada McCarthy capped the scoring for the Hornets with an 73-65 win.
Horsemanship swept the day with a 4-0 score, starting with Cortina's 77-75 MOP victory. Sophomore Claire Andrews 78 topped her Eagle opponent, and both Kersten Zehner and Alexis Grogan earned wins with scores of 77.5.
Following the break, Flat put together a 4-0 mark vs. UMN Crookston in Jumping Seat action. Brown dominated with 71-48 victory. Maranda McCarthy put together a 68-60 score over Gabrielle Siefkes. Sophomore Grace Mangrum picked up a huge 65-54 win, before Victoria Croston edge Juliana Gullo for 63-60 to pick up the final point for the Hornets.
Reining capped the afternoon with another 4-0 sweep over the Eagles. MOP winner Anastaastia Brugger started it off with a 77-73.5 win over Marley Haise. Claire Andrews and Bailey Henderson both collected a score of 76.5, earning them wins over their opponents.
Sophomore Estelle Estus capped the day with a 73-71 win over RaeAnna Danielson.
The Hornets continue their season as the squad host Baylor and UT Martin in a two-match stint Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. ET. and Nov. 18, at 10 a.m. ET.
