Shelbe Jarrett, an alumna of Delaware State's equestrian and aviation programs, has been named winner of the 2023 "Pilot Your Own Adventure Writing Contest" by the Experimental Aircraft Association. Jarrett will attend the largest annual aviation convention in the world, AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, as part of her reward.
Jarrett originally entered DSU intending to major in geriatric psychology, but after the first semester of her freshman year she made the change to study aviation. As a youngster, she had a passion for aviation, and after speaking with a former teammate who was enrolled in the program, Jarrett made the decision to pursue her passion.
As a member of the Hornet equestrian team, Jarrett competed in horsemanship and reining as a western rider. She earned multiple Most Outstanding Performer honors and was awarded as the Hornets' Reining Freshman Rider of the Year in 2017, and named to the 2018 National Collegiate Equestrian Association Academic All-America First Team.
