NEW CASTLE, Del. --- The Delaware State bowling team clinched its first top-five finish of the second semester and fifth overall after claiming second place at the Griffin Baker Classic hosted by Chestnut Hill College.

The Hornets started off strong posting a 3-2 record on day one with a total pinfall of 5,004 averaging 200.2 pins per game breaking the 1,000-pin mark in three of five games.

Delaware State followed up with a 3-1 mark on day two for a tournament record of 6-3 finishing only behind Mercyhurst University. The Hornets knocked down a total of 8,992 pins averaging 199.8 pins per game breaking the 1,000-pin mark two more times with the weekend-high coming in match six where Delaware State recorded 1,150 total pins.

Delaware State will return to action this coming weekend at the James Brown Invitational hosted by Morgan State University.
