DOVER, Del. --- The Delaware State bowling team opens the second semester slate of tournaments at the Northeast Classic hosted by Sacred Heart University.

A tournament field of 34 teams will feature some of the top-ranked teams in the country highlighted by the top-five from the latest NTCA poll (McKendree, North Carolina A&T, Vanderbilt, Nebraska and Stephen F. Austin), Delaware State who came in at No. 13 in the December poll will look to capitalize on the momentum that was established early on in the first semester of tournaments to begin the season.

The Hornets claimed four top-five finishes during the first semester, most notably finishing third at the Track Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State University with two second-place finishes coming at the Mount Shootout and MEAC #1.

Senior
Emily Garl was about the state of the team heading into the Northeast Classic to begin the semester and said "These group of girls are amazing to bowl with, and I couldn't be more grateful to end my college career off with these ladies. We have been working hard over break to prepare for this upcoming tournament in New Jersey, so I know it'll pay off." Garl shined at the Track Kat Klash as she finished in fourth place overall in that tournament.

Individually, the Hornets enjoyed great success last semester highlighted by sophomore
Cierra Brown who was a two-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowler of the Week in the first half of the season. Brown was asked about her first-half performance and stated, "Coming off a personal good performance at our last tournament, I feel I have some momentum to take advantage of and hopefully use to help motivate the rest of the team as well."

Reigning MEAC Rookie of the Year
Sydney Reardon claimed two top-10 finishes to start the year after taking fourth at the Bud Whitman Classic and then finishing eighth at the Mount Shootout.
Saralyne Nassberg and
Alyssa Breidegam also shined at the Mount Shootout finishing fifth and six place respectively.

The Northeast Classic hosted by Sacred Heart University is currently scheduled to start Friday and will run through Sunday. Delaware State opens up the first day of the tournament against Wisconsin-Whitewater, Vanderbilt, McKendree, Arkansas State and Nebraska. A live coverage link to watch Delaware State is below.
