Felton, Del. (Sep. 23, 2022) --- The Delaware State equestrian team opened its 2022-23 season on the short end of a 14-6 score at the hands of nationally-ranked South Carolina at the Dovington Training Center today. The Gamecocks were 10^th in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association preseason rankings.
South Carolina won the Jumping Seat and Western competitions by identical 7-3 scores.
The highlight for Delaware State was the performance by Megan Winborne, who earned Most Outstanding Performer honors after topping all riders with a score of 87 in Fences.
Miranda McCarthy (76) also posted a Fences win for the Hornets, while Victoria Croston collected a point for Delaware State with a win  on the Flat (78).
Kersten Zehner (72) and Alex Grogan (70.5) were winners for the Hornets in Horsemanship. Delaware State's Aiden Stetzer won her ride with a score of 63.5 in Reining.
