Dover, Del. (Mar. 16, 2022) --- Delaware State was held to just one run in a doubleheader sweep by the University of Pennsylvania today.
The Quakers won the opener 7-1 and completed the sweep with a 4-0 victory in game two.
Emma Nedley and Dana Anderson each had a homer and two runs batted in to lead Penn in game one. The Hornets were also plagued by four errors, resulting in three unearned runs, in the opener.
Delaware State trailed 5-0 before scoring its lone run on a two-out single by
Dallas Speicher-Ramirez in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Starter pitcher
Yanique Spencer had two of the Hornets' five hits in the opener.
In game two, Penn starter Payton Bean tossed six shutout innings, allowing just five singles, while striking out four without allowing a walk.
Laurel McKelvey drove in two runs for the Quakers in the nightcap.
Jaelyn Baker had two of Delaware State's six hits in game two.
The Hornets begin their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schedule with a three-game series at Maryland-Eastern Shore this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday. The series concludes with a single game on Sunday in Princess Anne, Md. Â Â
