VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --- The Delaware State University bowling team wrapped up the MEAC #2 Tournament with a second-place finish over the weekend.
Â
The Hornets recorded an 11-5 record over two days and tallied a total pinfall of 17,674 finishing only behind sixth-ranked North Carolina A&T.
Â
Delaware State was led by the freshman duo ofÂ
Kelsey Cummings and
Emily Breidegam. Cummings finished first overall while Breidegam finished eighth securing the only top-10 finishes for the Hornets.
"Going into this weekend we knew that this was one of the hardest patterns we have seen all year. This made our communication and shot execution that much more important, we never let a bad frame get to us and we picked each other up. We had a strong weekend as a team and are ready for our upcoming tournament this weekend and to end this month on a strong note" – Cummings on the team's performance this weekend and what lies ahead.
Â
Cummings knocked down a total of 1,927 pins averaging 214.11 per game with her highest came in the first game when she rolled a 255. Breidegam tallied 1,720 total pins averaging 191.1 per game and her highest also came in the first game when she recorded a 207.Â
Breidegam added "I loved seeing each and every one of us put up a fight. Sometimes it's not about striking but getting to the pocket and making the spare and I believe that was something the team did very well this weekend."
Â
Delaware State will have another quick turnaround as the Hornets prepare for the Stallings Invitational this weekend held by North Carolina A&T.
