Dover, Del. (Nov. 19, 2022) --- The Delaware State equestrian team has once again upended one of the nation's top programs.
Less than a week after returning to the National Collegiate Equestrian Association rankings at No. 10, the Hornets knocked off No. 4 Georgia 11-8 at the Dovington Training Center on Friday.
Delaware State's Western squad posted a 7-3 win, highlighted by two Most Outstanding Performer awards, to help seal the upset.
The Hornets were 4-1 winners in Horsemanship and posted a 3-2 victory in Reining against the Bulldogs.
Claire Andrews was the headliner in Horsemanship, claiming MOP honors after riding "Lacey" to a score of 76 to top all competitors.
Delaware State also received points on winning rides by
Casey Johnson (74.5),
Kersten Zehner (74.5) and Alexis Grogan (72.5) in the Horsemanship rides.
Anastasia Brugger was MOP in Reining, topping all riders with a score of 70.5 aboard "Waldo."
Amber Van Segbrook (69.5) and Aiden Stetzer (66) also collected points for the Hornets in the Reining competition.
The Hornets also received four points from the Jumping Seat riders.
Maranda McCarthy turned in a career performance with a score of 93 aboard "Carlus" to earn a point on the Flat, while Olivia Brown also netted a point for DSU with a score of 85 on the Flat.
The Hornets and Bulldogs battled to a 2-2 tie in the Flat competition.
Brown (85) and McCarthy (72) were also winners in their Fences performances.
