Baltimore, Md. (Apr. 2, 2021) ---The Delaware State softball team erased a 6-0 deficit, but never led in a 7-6 loss to Morgan State in game one of a MEAC North doubleheader today. The Bears completed the doubleheader sweep with a 9-0 victory in game two.
In the opener, Morgan State scored a run in the first inning and five in the second to open up a 6-0 lead.
The Hornets started their comeback with a run in the third on a wild pitch and another in the fourth to pull to within 6-2.
DSU evened the contest with four runs in the fifth inning. The Hornets scored their first two runs of the inning on a Morgan State error, then Caitlyn Meyer doubled in the last two to tie the score at 6-6.
Morgan State answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead 7-6.
The Hornets had two hits in the top of the seventh but, but failed to score.
Each team committed four errors in the opener, resulting in a combined six unearned runs.
In the nightcap, Morgan State's Mika Barnard pitched a five-inning two-hit shutout and the Bears scored seven first inning runs.
Delaware State managed just two hits in the nightcap, singles by Meyer and
Jaelyn Baker.
The teams will close out the series with another  doubleheader on Saturday.  Â
