DSU COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN LOSS TO AGGIES

Orangeburg, S.C. (Apr. 18, 2021) --- Delaware State's bid for a three-game sweep during the MEAC softball round-up this weekend fell short in a 4-2 loss to North Carolina A&T today. The Hornets won two of their three games in the round-up to stand at 10-17 overall and 8-6 in the MEAC this season.
NCA&T's Kiara Richards tossed a complete game, allowing two runs (one earned), while striking out five without a walk to earn the win.
The Aggies scored all their runs in the top of the second inning, including a lead-off home run by Kayla Taylor.
Delaware State scored its first run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Hannah Crumblish. The Hornets pulled to within 4-2 on a sac fly by Jasmine Melgoza in the fifth.
DSU had runners on third and second in the sixth and seventh innings, but failed to score.
Jade King and Jonah Cunnigan had two hits each. King had the Hornets' lone extra base hit with a double to lead off the seventh inning.
Maiklya Nelson pitched 5.2 innings of scoreless relief after replacing starter Manayah McIntosh with one out in the second inning.
The Hornets return to action with a home doubleheader against Villanova on Wednesday (Apr. 21) starting at 2:00 p.m. before a home series against Norfolk State next weekend (Apr. 24-25).
