Dover, Del. (Feb. 7, 2021) --- Delaware State posted an 8-2 overall record to finish third in the 11-team Northeast Invitational bowling tournament this weekend.
The Hornets, ranked 15
th in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association top 25 poll, Â were 4-1 in Friday's Baker competition and Saturday's traditional play. Sunday's Baker dual scheduled was called off due to inclement weather.
In Friday's opening day Baker matches, Delaware State started with a win over Mount St. Mary's (893-889) before suffering its only loss of the day to No. 13 North Carolina A&T (940-1073).
The Hornets closed out the day with victories over Morgan State (965-825), Chestnut Hill (863-800) and Long Island (949-892).
In Saturday's traditional competition, Â Delaware State opened the day with a loss to Mount St. Mary's (932-937) before winning the last four versus Sacred Heart (944-909), Chestnut Hill (945-891), St. Francis-Pa. (982-787) and Long Island (952-874).
Individually, DSU's Steffany Toala (jr.) was second among 76 weekend competitors with a total pinfall of 1038 for a five-game average of 207.6. Toala topped the 200 mark in each of her last three games, including a high of 224 vs. St. Francis. She also rolled 223 vs. Chestnut Hill and 207 against Long Island.
Delaware State's
Katie Robb (jr.) was sixth in the competition with a total pinfall of 1014 in five games (202.8 avg.).
