Baltimore, Md. (Feb. 14, 2021) --- Delaware State made it to the championship match before falling to national No. 13 North Carolina A&T in the James Brown Bowling Invitational this weekend. The Hornets, ranked 15
th in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association poll, posted a 10-4 overall record in the three-day tourney, which also featured No. 8 Youngstown State and No. 17 Duquesne.
The Hornets were 3-2 in the first day of competition, winning Baker matches against Youngstown State, Morgan State and Coppin State, but falling to Duquesne and North Carolina A&T.
Delaware State was 4-1 in the day two traditional matches, highlighted by victories over NCA&T (954-926) and Duquesne (940-874). The Hornets fell to Youngstown State (883-927) for their only loss of the day.
DSU advanced to Sunday's championship match after defeating Youngstown State (4-2) and Duquesne (4-3).
The Hornets were upended by NCA&T in the finals 4-1.
Individually, DSU freshman
Alyssa Breidegam earned All-Tournament First Team honors after finishing fourth among all competitors with a five-game total pinfall of 991 for a 198.2 average. Breidegam topped the 200-mark in two games, including a high of 232 vs. Duquesne, one shy of her season best. She has three all-tourney awards in the Hornets' four tournament appearances this season.
Delaware State's
Katie Robb (jr.) was named to the James Brown Invitational All-Tournament Second Team after finishing eighth in the field with a total pinfall of 960 in five games for a 192.0 average. Robb has placed in the top 10 in each of DSU's four competitions this season.
