Dover, Del. (Nov. 8, 2021) --- The Delaware State women's bowling team opened its 2021-22 schedule with a seventh place finish out of 15 teams at the Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State in Texas.
The Hornets posted a 6-7 overall record in the event, which featured 10 teams ranked in the 2021-22 National Tenpin Coaches Association preseason poll. Delaware State is 14
th in the preseason rankings
Delaware State began the tournament with a 2-3 record in Baker competition on Friday, highlighted by a 1050-911 victory over preseason No. 17 Central Missouri (1050-911). The Hornets also fell to No. 1 Nebraska (923-1084) on the opening day. Â
Delaware State also posted a 2-3 record in regular team competition on day two of the tournament, including losses to fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference members North Carolina A&T and Maryland-Eastern Shore. NCA&T is ranked 5
th in the nation, while UMES is No. 20.
The Hornets ended the tournament with a 2-1 record in Baker Quad play on Sunday, including another win over Central Missouri (4-3).
DSU also fell to UMES (3-4) in a Baker Quad match.
Individually, freshman
Emily Breidegam was tops on the Hornets with a total pinfall of 979 in five games for a 195.8 per game average. Breidegham had a high score of 225 and a second best game of 215.
Senior
Stefanny Toala was second on the team with a 965 total pinfall (193.0 avg.). Toala topped the 200 mark in two games, including a high of 220. Â
Freshman
Sydney Reardon had the Hornets' top single game of 226.
