Fort Worth, Tex. (Jan. 30, 2020) --- Delaware State's
Erin Gordon earned Most Outstanding Performer honors with a scintillating ride on the Flat, but it was not nearly enough in the Hornets' 15-2 women's equestrian loss to nationally-ranked Texas Christian at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Meet on Friday. The Horned Frogs, ranked eighth in the latest Farnam Top 10 national poll, were 9-1 winners in the Western competition and posted a 6-1 victory in the Jumping Seat rides to improve to 12-0 all-time vs. the Hornets.
Gordon collected her third MOP award this season with a score of 93 aboard "Mo" to earn the Hornets' lone Jumping Seat point in the competition. Gordon needed a strong performance to defeat her opponent, TCU's Jacey Albaugh, who tallied 91 points in her ride on "Mo."
Three of the DSU/TCU Jumping Seat rides ended in tie scores, including Gordon's Fences match against Isabella Baxter, with each recording a score of 86.
Sydney Wicklund (85) and
Miranda Adcock (82) also came close to winning, competing to tie scores in their Flat performances.
In the Western rides,
Anastasia Brugger recorded Delaware State's lone win, riding "Brittany" to a score of 67 in the Reining competition.
Grace Wilson had DSU's top Reining total of 71 aboard "Snoop Dog" but came up short in her match.
Kelsey McArthur posted the Hornets' best Horsemanship score of 76, but was edged out by TCU's Mattie Dukes, who tallied 77.5 points to earn MOP honors in the competition.
The Delaware State equestrian team will compete against No. 5 South Carolina on Mar. 5 at the Dovington Training Center in Felton.
The Hornets will also host the five-team 2020 ECAC Tournament Championship Mar. 26 to 28 at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington.
