Norfolk, Va. (Apr. 27, 2015) --- Delaware State University outfielder Charles Dailey (sr.; Pasadena, Md.) and pitcher Lane DeLeon (fr.; Georgetown, Del. ) have been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for their performances last weekend.
Dailey was named MEAC Player-of-the-Week after hitting .643 (9-for-14) with eight RBI, seven runs scored, two doubles and a triple in the Hornets' three-game sweep of Coppin State. He was five-for-six with a triple, double and career-high five RBI in DSU's 17-0 win over the Eagles last Saturday.
For the season, Dailey is second in the MEAC and 40th among all NCAA Div. I players with a .376 batting average. He's tied for the first on the team and third in the league with six home runs. In addition, he leads the MEAC in slugging percentage (.603) and total bases (85); and is second in the conference in triples (4) and fourth in on-base percentage (.444).
DeLeon was selected as the MEAC's Pitcher-of-the-Week for his near no-hitter in the 17-0 victory over Coppin State on Apr. 25. He was one out away from a no-hitter before allowing back-to-back singles. It was his first career complete game and shutout.
DeLeon is tops in the MEAC and 21st among all Div. I players with an 11.2 strikeout per nine inning ratio. He's second in the league with 65 strikeouts this season.
The Hornets will return to action on Wednesday with a non-conference game at Towson. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Delaware State will close out the 2015 regular season with a three-game series at home against UMES this weekend. The Hornets and Eagles will play a doubleheader next Saturday beginning at noon; and wrap up the series with a single game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
