HORNETS LOOK TO WIDEN MEAC NORTH LEAD AGAINST NSU

Dover, Del. (Apr. 6, 2012) --- The Delaware State baseball team looks to open up a some breathing room in the MEAC North race when Norfolk State visits Soldier Field for a three-game weekend series.

The Hornets and Spartans will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m., and a single game on Sunday, also at 1:00.

Delaware State leads the MEAC North with a 5-1 mark. The Hornets are 15-13-1 overall this season.  Norfolk State is second in the North at 5-3 (9-16 overall).

DSU swept a three-game series from the Spartans in Norfolk, Va., last month, winning 4-1, 11-0 and 4-1.

Hornet first baseman Ryan Haas is tied for the team lead with a .356 average (36-for-101). Haas also tops the team in hits (36), doubles (12) and runs batted in (27). Catcher Eddie Sorondo shares the team lead with a .356 average (26-for-73).

Outfielder Aaron Nardone is the Hornet leader with two home runs.

Right hander Jordan Elliott tops the team with four wins (4-2) and a 2.23 earned run average. He's also second on the club with 24 strikeouts. Opponents are batting .238 against him this season.

Cameron Day is Norfolk State's top hitter at .351 (26-for-74). Ryan Montgomery and Justin Lee share the team lead with 11 runs batted in each.

Norfolk State pitchers have a combined ERA of 3.78. Four hurlers share the team lead with two wins each.
