The highlight of the Third Annual Delaware Diamond Extravaganza was the recognition of eight Delawareans or individuals with ties to Delaware for outstanding contributions to women's sports in the state. The honorees were Robert Hastings, former Seaford (Del.) High School tennis coach; Dr. Josette McCullough, former DSU student-athlete/Delaware scholastic coach and school administrator; Chris Morgan, former Goldey-Beacom College coach and director of athletics; John Travis, girls softball scholarship donor; Mable Morrison, DSU professor; Mary Ann Hitchens, former University of Delaware coach/administrator;  Maxine Lewis, former DSU sports information director/ABC Sports Publicist; and George Pepper, former Cape Henlopen High School track & field/cross country coach.      

The event was attended by more than 200 people, including Delaware State University President Harry L. Williams and members of his cabinet; Interim Director of Athletics Eric Hart, DSU coaches and more than two dozen university student-athletes.  

The guest speaker for the event was actor Leon Robinson, who has appeared in "The Temptations," 'Five Heartbeats," and "Cool Runnings."

Former Delaware Diamond Extravaganza keynote speaker Joetta Clark Diggs, a four-time U.S. Olympian and collegiate track & field champion, was also in attendance.  

Proceeds from the event benefit women's sports at the university.
