HORNETS RISE IN HBCU FOOTBALL POLLS

Dover, Del. (Oct. 29, 2012) --- Delaware State has taken leap forward in the weekly HBCU football polls.  

The Hornets have risen to No. 5 in the weekly Boxtorow national Black College FCS coach's poll, up one spot from last week. DSU was No. 6 in the poll before its 28-23 win at Morgan State last Thursday. The Hornets, 5-3, received 100 points in the latest poll, which is headed by Tennessee State (8-1). The top ranked Tigers collected 11 of 17 first place votes and 164 points. Bethune-Cookman (6-2), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (6-2) and Alabama State (5-3) are also ahead of Delaware State in the latest Boxtorow poll.

Also, Delaware State has moved into a tie for fifth in the latest Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) national Black College Top 10 football rankings, up from No. 8 a week ago. The Hornets are tied with Alabama A&M in the poll. Each team collected a total of 81 points.  

Tennessee State also tops the HSRN poll. The Tigers received 11 of 14 first place votes and 138 points. .

Delaware State's next opponent, North Carolina Central, is ranked seventh in the HSRN and Boxtorow coach's polls.

DSU and NC Central will meet this Saturday (Nov. 3) at 2:00 p.m. in Durham, N.C. The Hornets and Eagles are tied for second in the MEAC standings at 4-1. Bethune-Cookman leads the league with a 5-0 mark.
