BROOKINGS, S.D. - For the second time
this season, Delaware State senior Caroline
Foltz (Dover, Del.) posted a score over 90.
This time her Equitation on the Flat score of 93, followed with MVP
honors, came in the Hornets' 9-5 loss to host South Dakota State Sunday morning
at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.
Foltz
scored the lone point for Del State on the flats as the Jackrabbits took the
3-1 victory.
In
Equitation over Fences, Foltz also scored the lone point for the Hornets in her
76-point ride. Santana Wright won MVP
honors in her 85-point performance over junior Alyssa Berfield's (Fredericksburg, Va.) 75- point ride on Snowy. SDSU took three 80-plus point performances to
win the event, 3-1, and the English discipline, 6-2.
On
the Western side, junior Breann Huyett
(Narvon, Pa.) and freshman Megan Marie
Foley (Powell, Ohio) won their matchups to lead DSU to a 2-1 victory in the
Reining event. Huyett scored a 71 to
defeat Jana Basler's 67.5 on Emmy while Foley snuck by Lauren Kostello by a
score of 69.5 to 69 on Shadow. Junior McKenzie Trueba (Williams, Ariz.) tied
Maggie Holzworth in their matchup at 68.5 apiece. Helen Lauth earned Reining MVP honors with a
ride of 72.
Trueba
recorded the Hornets sole point in Horsemanship as she defeated Hillery
Baysinger, 68.5 to 66.5 on Ryder. Freshman
Tayler Scuse (Smyrna, Del.) tied
Kelsey Champagne at 70-all on Jag, but the Jacks pulled out the 2-1
victory. SDSU's Holzworth took the MVP
in the Horsemanship event.
The
two teams tied, 3-3, in the western discipline as Del State falls to 0-6 on the
season and the Jacks improve to 2-3-1.
The
Hornets take next weekend off as they prepare for their matchups against Tennessee-Martin
and Georgia on November 18-19 in Martin, Tenn.
