MARTIN, Tenn. - In their second
road trip of the season and their last show of the fall season, the Delaware
State University equestrian team suffered a difficult weekend as they fell to
No. 3 Georgia and host Tennessee-Martin.
In
the first meet of the weekend, the Hornets matched-up against nationally ranked
UGA, 19-1.
Freshman
Kali Voshell (Felton, Del.) scored
the lone point for Del State in her matchup against Jackie Hoyt in the Reining
event. Voshell recorded a score of 70.5
to Hoyt's 62.5 on horse Spud.
Junior
Breann Huyett (Narvon, Pa.) nearly
defeated Kelly Treusdell in Reining, but lost, 72.5-73.5, to the eventual MVP
on horse Oakley.
DSU
lost by a point total of 1509.5 to 1328.5 to the Bulldogs.
The
Hornets fared somewhat better against the Skyhawks, but still struggled en
route to a 17-3 loss.
Voshell
finished the day 2-for-2 as she also won her Reining event against UTM. She outscored Carly Lamb, 72-0, on Lover. Huyett also won her point in Reining as she
scored a 73 over Candice Fulcher's 70 on horse Tivvy.
Sophomore
Erin Engard (Shamong, N.J.) was the
sole other DSU rider who won her event. She
scored a 74 over Katie Miranda's 55 in Equitation over Fences.
Overall,
the Hornets lost by a point total of 1416 to 1366 to UTM.
Del
State has concluded the fall schedule and will open their spring schedule on
January 28 at the Gambler's Choice Equestrian Center as they host Sacred Heart.
