DOVER, Del. - The Delaware State
University equestrian team opened up their second weekend of home events with
an 11-4 loss to New Mexico State University Friday evening at the Gambler's
Choice Equestrian Center.
The
Hornets came closest to the Aggies in the reining event, being outscored
2-1. Junior McKenzie Trueba (Williams, Ariz.) defeated freshman Marissa
Bartmann by a score of 69.5 to 68 on Kat to take MVP honors. DSU freshman Megan Marie Foley (Powell, Ohio) tied Stefanie Story 63.5-63.5 on
horse Wuzzy.
To
wrap up the Western discipline, NMSU beat the Hornets, 3-1. Del State's lone victory came from freshman Tayler Scuse (Dover, Del.) as she rode
Bently to a 72 point performance to Jessica Woolsey's 68 points. NMSU's Lauren DeVoe was named MVP for the
event as she scored a 78.5 to senior Brittni
Collins' (Denton, Md.) 75 on Orkie.
On
the Hunterseat side, the Aggies defeated DSU, 6-2, dividing things evenly 3-1
over Equitation and Equitation Over Fences.
Junior Shelby Bonneville (New
Windsor, Md.) won her matchup, 76-74, against Hannah Swarthout with horse
Monday. Stephanie Gershon recorded a
tremendous score of 88 for NMSU over junior Alyssa Berfield's (Fredericksburg, Va.) 76 to take Equitation MVP
honors.
In
the Equitation Over Fences, Berfield took horse Emily to a 78-76 victory over
Emily McConnell. Beth Solomann took MVP
honors with her 81-75 performance over Bonneville on Mick.
The
Hornets continue their weekend with an 8:30 a.m. meet against Southern
Methodist at the Gambler's Choice Equestrian Center. The two teams will only compete in the
Hunterseat/English discipline. The GCEC
is located at 238 Grey Fox Lane on the north side of Dover.
