HORNETS KICK OFF 2010 SOCCER SEASON AT UMBC

Dover, Del. (Aug. 19, 2010) --- The Delaware State University women's soccer team kicks off the 2010 season on the road tomorrow. The Hornets will visit Maryland-Baltimore County in a 5:00 p.m. contest at the UMBC Soccer Stadium on Friday.

Delaware State returns 14 letterwinners from its 2009 squad, which posted an overall record of 1-15-2. Among the returning players is sophomore forward Theresa Wappett, who led the team with three goals and seven points last season. Forwards Michelle Giorgilli (jr.) and Allison Schrang (sr.) also return. Giorgilli had two goals and four points, while Schrang collected a goal and an assist during the '09 season.

Sophomore Latoya Lesane, the 2009 Great West Conference Newcomer of the Year, also returns from last year's squad.

Delaware State has added eight new players to the team. Freshman Alexandra Brosky scored a goal in the Hornets' 2-0 win over Community College of Baltimore County in an exhibition contest this week.

UMBC holds a 3-0 lead over the Hornets in the series between the teams. The Retrievers posted a 4-1 win over Delaware State in Dover, Del., last season.

The Hornets will play their 2010 home opener on Sunday against the University of Delaware. The match gets underway at 2:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium on the DSU campus.
