North Brunswick, N.J. (Mar. 8, 2009) --- Delaware State has captured the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) bowling championship.
The Hornets claimed their first ECAC title by defeating Fairleigh Dickinson four-games-to-one in Baker Quad competition in the championship series on Sunday. DSU advanced to the final with a 4-2 series win over New Jersey City earlier in the day.
Also on Sunday, the Hornets posted Baker Quad wins over St. Peter's, Kutztown and Howard.
Delaware State posted a 5-1 record in regular team play on Saturday, defeating Kutztown, Adelphi, St. Francis, Long Island, and New Jersey, while falling to Fairleigh Dickinson.
The ECAC title is the third of the season for the Hornets, who also captured the Arkansas State and Kutztown tournament titles this year.
Delaware State is ranked No. 5 in the latest National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) poll. The Hornets were 8-1 vs. NTCA Top 25 teams en route to the ECAC title.
The Hornets placed three bowlers on the ECAC All-Tournament Team. Adriana Jaime led DSU with a 215 average, including a high game of 235. Jazmyne Hefflefinger averaged 211 for the weekend (high 238), while Brooke Peterson rolled a high game of 225 and posted an average of 206.
