Dover, Del. (Nov. 16, 2009) --- The Delaware State University bowling team improved to 19-1 in the MEAC North this season after going undefeated in a conference match-up at the Mid-County Bowling and Entertainment Center in Middletown, Del., this weekend.
The defending MEAC champion Hornets posted a 10-0 record in the competition, winning five regular team games on Saturday and five Baker matches on Sunday.
DSU began the competition with regular team wins over Hampton (878-769), Howard (931-708), Coppin State (980-832), Morgan State (957-843) and UMES (917-893) on Saturday.
Sophomore Adriana Jaime, the reigning MEAC Rookie-of-the-Year, led the Hornets with a total pinfall of 1021 in the five games (204.2). Jaime had the team's best performance of the day, rolling a 257 in the win over Howard. Sophomore Jazmyne Hefflefinger was second on the team with a 973 total pinfall in five games (194.6). Her top game was 220 vs. Coppin State.
The Hornets capped off the weekend with Best-of-7 Baker wins over Howard, Hampton, Morgan State, UMES and Coppin State. DSU defeated UMES 200-196 in Game 7 to claim the victory.
Delaware State, ranked sixth in the preseason National Tenpins Coaches Association poll, is now 28-5 overall this season.
The Hornets return to action at the UMES Hawk Classic in Millsboro, Del., next weekend.
