Baltimore, Md. (Dec. 7, 2008) --- The Delaware State bowling team improved to 25-5 vs. MEAC North opponents this season after winning eight of 10 matches in league competition this weekend. The Hornets were 4-1 in regular team play and in Baker contests.
In regular team play on Saturday, Delaware State defeated Howard (927-686), Hampton (927-862) and Coppin State (952-747) before falling to Morgan State (896-931). The Hornets ended the day with a 981-930 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore.
Freshman Jazmyne Hefflefinger had her best weekend of the season, averaging 207.6 in five games. Hefflefinger had three 200-plus games, including a career-best 247 in the UMES match, the second-best single-game score on the Hornets this season.
Hefflefinger's average improved to 183.4 (from 170.0) after this weekend's performance.
In the win over Hampton, Angela Reynolds rolled a team-best 214, while Brooke Peterson scored 201. Sammy Scionti had a season-best 210 in the Coppin State match.
In Sunday's Baker contests, the Hornets earned victories over Hampton (752-602), Howard (711-672), Coppin State (842-607) and Morgan State (721-717), while falling to UMES (726-739).
Delaware State, ranked No. 9 in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association poll, is now 46-15 overall this season, 20-6 in head-to-head matches and 26-9 in Baker contests.
