DELAWARE STATE EQUESTRIAN UPENDS NO. 12 SMU

Dover (Oct. 12, 2008) --- Delaware State University's English Equestrian riders have added another quality win to their resume'. The Hornets defeated Southern Methodist University (SMU) 5-4 Sunday at the Gambler's Choice Equestrian Facility, outscoring the Mustangs 664-to-585 in total points. The contest consisted of just English competition, since SMU does not field a Western team.

SMU was ranked No. 12 in the inaugural Intercollegiate Equestrian Coaches poll.

Delaware State was victorious in Equitation on the Flat 4-0, outscoring the Mustangs 319-223 in the competition. Elizabeth Frayser Tuttle, Julianna Aguilar, Kamerra Brown and Ashley Butler were winners on the Flat, while Caroline Foltz rode to a tie. Tuttle led all riders with a high score of 76, although Ashley Butler (71) was MVP of the Flat competition.

Southern Methodist was a 4-1 winner in Equitation over Fences, however, the Mustangs won by just 17 (362-345) in total points.

Tuttle, riding on “T.J”, recorded a 74 to earn the Hornets' lone win in Fences. DSU suffered two narrow defeats in Fences. Kayla Blair was defeated by one point (70-71), while Brown fell by just two (73-75).

SMU's Jordyn Petterson, who led all riders with a 75, was MVP of the Fences competition.

The Delaware State English and Western riders will return to action on Nov. 9 against Fresno State at Gambler's Choice.
